So, you know how sometimes life feels like this big, boring bubble, and you’re just floating around inside it, wondering why everything suddenly seems so dull? Well, guess what? I’ve been feeling the exact same way, and I think I’ve figured out why.
You see, I used to spend my days binge-watching Netflix, watching animes whole night, and also my amazing trip to Thailand. All these activities gave me this huge rush of happiness - daamn that dopamine was quite highhhhh.
But here’s the catch: when you get a massive dose of dopamine from things like Netflix, anime, or epic vacations, your brain gets used to it. It starts expecting more and more.
Now, imagine your brain is like a greedy little kid in a candy store. The more candy (dopamine) it gets, the more it craves. So, what happens when you suddenly stop the Netflix marathons and the thrilling adventures? Your brain throws a fit! It goes, “Wait, where’s my dopamine dude?” And suddenly, you’re left feeling like you’re in a black-and-white movie in a world full color ( drama to be precise ) . its like the higher the dopamine you get from your previous activities ( like netflix and anime for me ) the lower it drops and you feel super bored and sick
But, here’s the good news. Just like a bruise heals over time, our brains can too. You know that boring, tired feeling you get after quitting the things that used to make you super happy? That’s your brain’s way of detoxing. It’s trying to get back to its normal, happy state, where simple things like chatting with friends or finishing a small task feel exciting again.
But guess what? Our brains are drama queens. They hate uncertainty. When you’re desperately trying to quit bad habits, your brain freaks out because it doesn’t know when it’ll get its next dopamine hit. So, here’s a trick I picked up - the 10 Minute Trick. When your brain screams, “I’m so bored! Let’s watch Netflix!”, just tell it, “Sure, in 10 minutes.” This way, your brain knows there’s a plan, and it can relax a bit.
Also, there’s this cool thing called the “Nothing Rule.” It sounds silly, but seems that it works. Instead of chasing after more dopamine-spiking activities, let yourself feel bored for a while. That empty, boring feeling is actually a sign that your brain is slowly resetting itself. It’s like a superhero in disguise, working hard to make your life exciting again.
So, there you have it - my journey from Netflix binges to the land of boredom and back again. It’s tough. Let’s embrace the boredom( I know its more complicated done than said ), fight the urge to binge-watch ( I am surely trying )
